State of Decay 2 New Free Zedhunter Update Available Now – Xbox Wire

Today, to celebrate and thank the 4 million strong State of Decay 2 community, we’re releasing the Zedhunter Update to Xbox Game Pass subscribers and current players for free. Players will get this pack, which adds a wealth of new options and ways to enjoy the game, as part of a content update beginning today – it’s our way of saying thanks to the 4 million of you who have supported our game since launch.

At X018 last weekend, we provided some initial details for the Zedhunter Update and how it brings new weapons and gameplay items to your community, but now we’re ready to give you a deeper dive into the Zedhunter Update’s additions. The Zedhunter Update integrates into your main community game and adds an iconic zombie-slaying weapon: crossbows, with eight new types now available! This is big, as crossbows are silent and powerful weapons – for example, scoped crossbows can more easily score headshots without drawing any attention or aggression from other zombies nearby.

Crossbow bolts can also be recovered afterwards (making them the eco-friendliest post-zombie apocalypse weapon around), and unlike traditional firearms, crossbows never jam or break. Because they’re powerful, efficient and silent, using them against a plague zombie gives you a higher chance of extracting a plague sample. The new crossbows might be your go-to weapon, but the Zedhunter Update also comes with three new melee and three new close-combat weapons for the more hands-on and stealthier survivor – giving you plenty of swords and knives to fight enemies with.

Expect even more customization options in the Zedhunter Update; the content update will include the ability to reset a survivor’s core skill specializations. If you ever wanted to switch your Cardio from Marathon to Backpacking you can read a new training manual and then change the specialization of that core skill – though be aware that the trade-off is that you’ll gain experience for this new skill slower than usual. Additionally, we’ve added six new “quirk skills” (like “Hygiene”) which provide new buffs to your survivors or to your community; you can find these skill books by tracking down the Skills Trader when that character visits your town.

One other gameplay addition we’re excited about is the addition of three new potent plague consumables. These can drastically enhance your survivor’s abilities; but we should mention that they’re basically poison to humans, since they involve consuming a touch of plague infection. Maybe a little infection is worth it for the ability to see in the dark or sneak past zombies without drawing their attention – it’ll be up to you to decide.

To help introduce all this new content, we’ve added several missions to the game (and updated others). If you want to experience these new missions, keep an eye out for missions labeled “Mysterious” you may happen across during your quest. Lastly, we’ve added three new achievements for you to attain for as you play through the new Zedhunter Update additions.

As mentioned before, the Zedhunter Update will be free for all SOD2 players – Xbox Game Pass members, Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition owners – beginning today. If you’ve been waiting to jump into the game, now’s the perfect time with the Xbox Black Friday sale coming around the corner. Whether you start a new Xbox Game Pass for just $1 for the first month, or get either the Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition on sale for 35% off, the Zedhunter Update will be ready and waiting for you.

At Undead Labs, we’ve set out to build the ultimate zombie survival fantasy and are committed to delivering that in every way – which is why we’ve also announced that in the near future players can look forward to a new difficulty experience, along with the chance to return to Trumbull Valley in 2019. With today’s free Zedhunter Update, we’re giving our 4 million (and growing) players even more tools to answer the question: how will you survive?

New RingCentral platform, UC mobile app and AI partnerships

RingCentral is expanding its cloud-based communications offerings with a new customer engagement platform, AI voice analytics partnerships and a revamped mobile app.

RingCentral, based in Belmont, Calif., announced the new products and partnerships at its ConnectCentral cloud communications conference. The announcements center around streamlining the user experience.

RingCentral Engage is a customer engagement platform based on contact center technology company, Dimelo. RingCentral acquired Paris-based Dimelo in October for an undisclosed amount.

The RingCentral platform manages customer interactions through an AI-based routing engine, which allows agents to manage customer interactions across all digital channels using a single interface. Agents can use Engage to connect to relevant experts and other agents from within an organization to assist in customer interactions.

“It’s important to empower agents with the right tools that will give them the ability to engage customers across multiple channels,” said Blair Pleasant, analyst at Commfusion LLC. “It’s also important to enable agents to access the expertise they need from people throughout their organization.”

The RingCentral platform will also integrate with RingCentral’s team messaging and video offerings. Agents can use real-time messaging, including web chat, SMS and Apple Business Chat, and can transition to video and screen sharing with one click to resolve issues faster and more efficiently.

The Engage platform is available now and its messaging and video integration will be available early next year.

RingCentral introduces new UC mobile app

A new mobile app from RingCentral will round out the unified communications user experience by allowing employees to communicate with the device of their choice. Today’s employees use an average of four communication apps and about 66% of employees want to use a single communications platform, according to market research firm Cite Research.

RingCentral’s mobile app strives to meet employee demand by including features such as team messaging, voice and video into one application.

“Unified communications is evolving to support the way people want to work and collaborate, and unified messaging is a fundamental part of that evolution” said Jim Lundy, CEO of Aragon Research.

The RingCentral mobile app is designed to serve both internal and external communications needs. The app focuses on three principles:

  • creating a collaborative experience by allowing users to create teams, add both internal and external members, and access features such as chat functionality, file sharing and calendar events;
  • supporting enterprise voice capabilities with business number identity, which allows users to dial out, take calls, perform extension dialing and send SMS worldwide — the app also provides a one-click transition from chat to voice; and
  • providing easy-to-use video capabilities to allow users to start or join video and screen sharing meetings with one click.

The RingCentral unified mobile app is available in the app store and will be available in several languages, including French, German and Spanish by the end of November.

RingCentral brings AI voice analysis to platform

RingCentral has also added AI voice analytics to its platform by partnering with Velvetech, Gong.io and Theta Lake. The AI vendors are part of RingCentral’s Connect Platform Partner Program, which allows partners to build services on RingCentral’s Connect Platform.

RingCentral partners can use the program’s open APIs to integrate with RingCentral’s cloud-based communications platform and offer customers a range of AI capabilities. Partners can use the new AI voice analytics services in a number of ways:

  • Velvetech, a software development platform provider, is using the open APIs to create a real-time transcription feature using machine learning from Xsell Technologies.
  • Gong.io, a conversation intelligence platform, is using RingCentral’s open APIs to build features that incorporate machine learning to improve best practices for sales teams.
  • Theta Lake focuses on audio and video communications compliance and archiving recordings for regulated industries.

In addition to its AI partnerships, RingCentral is enhancing its partner integrations with Box and Google. RingCentral Archiver allows users to archive RingCentral communications data automatically in Box. Using the Google Calendar add-on, users can use RingCentral for audio and video calling without having to toggle between applications.

Windows 10 Tip: Find out how to setup and use Surface Headphones – Windows Experience Blog

With Surface Headphones, you can tune in to what matters most by tuning out the world around you. With your Headphones and your Surface, your office, studio, or library is wherever you need to be. You’ve got the smarter way to listen.
Surface Headphones can simultaneously connect with up to 10 devices, including your Windows 10 PC, and mobile devices running on iOS and Android. With it, you can listen to music while focusing at your Surface and seamlessly take a call from your phone.
Setting up Surface Headphones

To begin using your Surface Headphones, first pair them with your Windows PC or mobile phone.

Press and release the power button quickly to turn your headphones on. They’ll be discoverable the first time you turn them on and the light will flash white.

On your Android device, go to Bluetooth settings and pair your Surface Headphones.

Using Surface Headphones

Surface Headphones feature the latest adjustable noise cancellation and great sound in a lightweight, breathable design, so you can listen to your favorite workday music, increase your focus, and get more done.
Play music on your Surface Headphones by using your favorite music app on your mobile device or on your Windows 10 PC. Touch gestures on either ear to quickly play or pause music, or change the tracks.

To
Do this

Play or pause music
Tap the touchpad on either ear.

Surface Headphones also have active noise cancellation, so you can block out external sound to help you focus or relax. For example, you might want to increase noise cancellation when you’re listening to music on a plane or bus, and reduce it when you want to have a quick conversation without taking off your headphones. Turn the dial on the left ear forward to hear less sound around you. Turn it backward to amplify more sound.
Using the companion app for Surface Headphones on your mobile device or Windows 10 PC, you can customize your audio settings for the music you listen to most. Choose an equalizer preset like Rock or Classical, or set your own preferred level of treble and bass. You can also view battery life and volume and noise cancellation levels by using the companion app for Surface Headphones on your mobile device or Windows 10 PC.

No problem, thank you for the fast reply. I assume it is just the Mac Mini and doesn’t come with keyboard and mouse/trackpad?

What are the top IoT security challenges in corporate settings?

The image of what constitutes a “security risk” has changed a lot in the digital age, from burly men in leather jackets to hoody-wearing computer hackers. Now, the face behind a data breach might not have a face at all — and it looks a lot like a Keurig.

At the “Help! My coffee maker is trying to hurt me!” panel during the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) International conference in Atlanta, experts weighed in on what they consider the biggest IoT security challenges:

  • long product lifecycles
  • simplistic perspectives on IoT risk

Existing IoT security and compliance regulations are often focused on products that hold personally identifiable information and devices that have a replacement window of three to four years, panelists said. Panel moderator and ISSA Board President Candy Alexander noted that this perspective has led both individual and corporate consumers to ignore the safety risks of implementing an IoT device.

Panelist Loren Roberts, senior security advisor at HP Inc., agreed.

“It’s not always the first device you think of. The smart refrigerator in the break room might be the way into your business,” Roberts said.

Low-priority, high-security risk IoT devices

Sandy CarielliSandy Carielli

These types of IoT devices — think refrigerator, coffee machine or printer — highlight the issue of longevity in data security, panelists said. Devices that are low-security priority can quickly become high risk when they exceed the typical three- to five-year shelf life of an IT server, said Sandy Carielli, director of security at Entrust Datacard Corp.

“The manufacturer who is patching and maintaining IoT technologies has to look out for a 20- or 30-year shelf life,” Carielli continued.

Katherine FithenKatherine Fithen

Katherine Fithen, managing principal consultant at SecureWorks Inc., noted that vendors and manufacturers would rather ignore security risks than begin to tackle “20 years’ worth of back managing” their products IoT security challenges.

Another aspect of the struggle to secure these IoT devices is the inability to apply patches and conduct maintenance on devices that are in constant use. IT security professionals are dealing with an uncharted part of the market — they can’t shut down IoT devices like cars, medical machines and pacemakers to conduct maintenance.

One solution: Start using security as a value-add or business differentiator, which would incentivize manufacturers to articulate the ROI of security management alongside cost-effectiveness in the manufacturing process, Carielli said.

Fithen noted that the differentiation will only come when consumers let go of their innate trust in IoT security measures and begin choosing products with manufacturer safety measures in mind.

“Until consumers ask for IoT security as a differentiator, it won’t be,” Fithen said.

Biggest IoT challenges for network managers

Who should herald the IoT security revolution?

The panel of experts called for a tiered response for improvement: Start with changing customers’ perception of IoT devices, then let go of the instinctive trust in existing security measures and demand a federal change.

Loren RobertsLoren Roberts

Roberts said that customers need to take responsibility and consider the risks and IoT security challenges that come with the devices they use.

“I’m always looking for ways to automate … but I have some criteria. If I can’t manage it, if I can’t create a password, it’s not coming into my environment. If there is a compromise, if I can’t patch it, it’s not coming into my environment,” Roberts said.

Fithen said security advocates — both corporate and legislative — need to think from the consumer perspective. Consumers usually don’t think of the risks involved and just assume that they are protected, she noted.

“Government oversight agencies have a responsibility, but we first need to hear that [people] are concerned,” Fithen said.

If risk becomes even a semi-universal concern among consumers, panelists agreed that experts must then implement product development standards to reach a unified understanding of what a secure and safe device entails, and then push to enact federal data protection regulation to enforce these standards.

Candy AlexanderCandy Alexander

ISSA’s Alexander noted that despite the constant data breaches where the majority of users were affected, customers have demanded little change. Public support for data protection and security measures usually only follows a major event such as the loss of life in automated vehicle accidents, she observed.

“[A data breach] might hurt you a little bit, the company a little bit, but does this mean that with the adoption of IoT devices it will take someone getting hurt before there are changes?” Alexander asked.
