Windows 10 SDK Preview Build 18334 available now! – Windows Developer Blog

Today, we released a new Windows 10 Preview Build of the SDK to be used in conjunction with Windows 10 Insider Preview (Build 18334 or greater). The Preview SDK Build 18334 contains bug fixes and under development changes to the API surface area.
The Preview SDK can be downloaded from developer section on Windows Insider.

This build works in conjunction with previously released SDKs and Visual Studio 2017.  You can install this SDK and still also continue to submit your apps that target Windows 10 build 1809 or earlier to the store.
The Windows SDK will now formally only be supported by Visual Studio 2017 and greater. You can download the Visual Studio 2017 here.
This build of the Windows SDK will install ONLY on Windows 10 Insider Preview builds.

Message Compiler (mc.exe)

The “-mof” switch (to generate XP-compatible ETW helpers) is considered to be deprecated and will be removed in a future version of mc.exe. Removing this switch will cause the generated ETW helpers to expect Vista or later.
The “-A” switch (to generate .BIN files using ANSI encoding instead of Unicode) is considered to be deprecated and will be removed in a future version of mc.exe. Removing this switch will cause the generated .BIN files to use Unicode string encoding.
The behavior of the “-A” switch has changed. Prior to Windows 1607 Anniversary Update SDK, when using the -A switch, BIN files were encoded using the build system’s ANSI code page. In the Windows 1607 Anniversary Update SDK, mc.exe’s behavior was inadvertently changed to encode BIN files using the build system’s OEM code page. In the 19H1 SDK, mc.exe’s previous behavior has been restored and it now encodes BIN files using the build system’s ANSI code page. Note that the -A switch is deprecated, as ANSI-encoded BIN files do not provide a consistent user experience in multi-lingual systems.

Change to effect graph of the AcrylicBrush
In this Preview SDK we’ll be adding a blend mode to the effect graph of the AcrylicBrush called Luminosity. This blend mode will ensure that shadows do not appear behind acrylic surfaces without a cutout. We will also be exposing a LuminosityBlendOpacity API available for tweaking that allows for more AcrylicBrush customization.
By default, for those that have not specified any LuminosityBlendOpacity on their AcrylicBrushes, we have implemented some logic to ensure that the Acrylic will look as similar as it can to current 1809 acrylics. Please note that we will be updating our default brushes to account for this recipe change.
TraceLoggingProvider.h  / TraceLoggingWrite
Events generated by TraceLoggingProvider.h (e.g. via TraceLoggingWrite macros) will now always have Id and Version set to 0.
Previously, TraceLoggingProvider.h would assign IDs to events at link time. These IDs were unique within a DLL or EXE, but changed from build to build and from module to module.

Note: The class  PushNotificationChannelsRevokedEventArgs which was available in previous flights has been removed.

WAN access focus of Cisco Viptela-DNA Center integration

The first phase of integration between Cisco’s Viptela SD-WAN and DNA Center — the company’s intent-based network management console — will let customers set policies for accessing the WAN from branch offices.

Cisco said on Thursday it is working on extending SD-Access from within DNA Center to the wide area network. SD-Access lets engineers set access policies that follow employees wherever and however they want to enter the corporate network.

Cisco executives have said integrating SD-Access with the Viptela software-defined WAN is essential, because the latter routes traffic to and from business applications running on SaaS and IaaS platforms.

“In the next six months, the first phase of this integration will focus on being able to provide cross-domain orchestration between the WAN and SD-Access,” Cisco said in a statement sent to TechTarget. “As to be expected, the exact delivery dates of these cross-domain integrations aren’t set in stone, being largely influenced by customer needs and feedback.”

Nevertheless, based on previous comments from company executives, Cisco could deliver the integration in the second half of the year. If so, then it’s likely to please customers using Cisco’s Catalyst switching and Aironet Wi-Fi access points in the branch, said Shamus McGillicuddy, an analyst at Enterprise Management Associates, based in Boulder, Colo.

“Enterprises want this kind of orchestration, which I assume Cisco means as configuration management, policy management, end-to-end network segmentation, etc.,” he said.

In August 2018, Cisco provided customers with the option of running Viptela on the IOS-XE operating system that runs the company’s Integrated Services Routers (ISR) and Aggregation Services Routers (ASR). Both devices are used to connect the branch to the WAN.

The combination of Viptela and IOS-XE meant customers could manage the ISR and ASR hardware using the SD-WAN’s cloud-based management software, vManage. The SD-Access-Viptela combination marks the start of bringing all vManage capabilities into DNA Center.

“The integration of vManage and Cisco DNA Center continues to be a priority for Cisco,” the company said.

Cisco’s plans aren’t clear for integrating the separate operational analytics that exist in DNA Center and Viptela. DNA Center has Assurance, and Viptela’s software is called vAnalytics.

“Both offer network managers insight into network and application performance,” McGillicuddy said. “I anticipate that some customers will want that integration.”

A slide deck shown at a Cisco presentation in Canada last year provides a list of integrations between DNA Center and Viptela that include Assurance. It also lists vManage and a cloud-hosted version of DNA Center.

Introduced a year ago, Assurance keeps tabs on how policies created in DNA Center affect network infrastructure. Engineers write policies in the software to align switches and routers to the needs of applications.

Assurance marked a significant step for Cisco toward intent-based networking (IBN), a developing area of technology that incorporates artificial intelligence and machine learning to automate administrative tasks across a network. Nevertheless, Cisco’s IBN portfolio overall is far from complete.

“Intent is largely an aspirational vision for Cisco and many other vendors,” said Andrew Lerner, an analyst at Gartner. “It represents where they are aiming long term versus where they are today with product capability.”

Cisco’s rocky path to SD-WAN

Cisco is integrating SD-WAN into its products to meet customer demand for the technology as a more efficient and cost-effective way to connect branch offices to applications running on private data centers and SaaS and IaaS providers. The technology also coincides with Cisco’s push to sell software that requires the vendor’s hardware to manage networks.

Cisco is battling for share in an SD-WAN infrastructure market that IDC predicted will rise from $833 million in 2017 to $4.5 billion in 2022. That amounts to an annual growth rate of more than 40%.

Cisco’s development of SD-WAN has not been smooth. Its first attempt, iWAN, wasn’t a strong enough product to fend off competition from SD-WAN startups, so Cisco bought one.

“Customers that invested in iWAN got stuck,” said Steve Garson, president of WAN consulting firm SD-WAN Experts, based in Denver. “Viptela is much simpler from the perspective of [being] on a single platform and a lot easier to implement than iWAN.”

Samsung’s 1 TB internal phone storage means headaches for IT

Heads up, IT: You could soon be managing devices with a whopping 1 TB internal phone storage, thanks to Samsung’s new embedded Universal Flash Storage 2.1. The capacity breakthrough comes just four years after Samsung’s 128 GB eUFS, and it could debut with the flagship Samsung Galaxy S10 later this month.

This increased internal storage could result in increased security headaches, according to Mike Matchett, principal IT industry analyst at Small World Big Data.

“The IT enterprise administrator is going to be faced with more and more mobile devices and edge devices that have greater amounts of storage on them, which means more applications and data that they would have to govern and protect,” he said.

For context, Samsung claims its 1 TB eUFS can store 2,600 minutes of 4K ultrahigh-definition video.

Measuring 11.5 mm by 13 mm — the same size as its 512 GB predecessor — the 1 TB eUFS features 16 layers of Samsung’s 512 Gb V-NAND flash memory.

According to Samsung, the 1 TB eUFS features “exceptional speed,” running at 1,000 MBps, which is around twice the read speed of a 2.5-inch SATA solid-state drive and 10 times the speed of a micro SD card. The 1 TB internal phone storage technology clocks in at up to 58,000 IOPS in random read speed and 50,000 IOPS in random write speeds, a 38% increase in random read speed from the 512 GB version.

    I have absolutely no need for a pc other than having an urge to play flight sim x which will not go away , bought the controllers and software last July without having a pc and then thought it was just a phase I was going through in my old age . Sadly for me it’s still playing on my mind so maybe this could do the job without costing me a fortune . Is there any movement on the price ?
