Wanted – graphics card

Sorry about the late reply – it’s been a long day!
The card is a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 Windforce OC 6GB (GV-N1060WF2OC-6GD)
It’s boxed, about 8 months old and has never been overclocked. One of the things I liked about this card is that it has 2 DVI outputs (plus HDMI and Display Port), rather than the usual 1.

Looking at the prices on a certain auction site, I’d price it right at the bottom end, at £220 delivered.

Skype in 2017—a year of highlights and milestones | Skype Blogs

This year has been full of exciting changes at Skype—with many new features and designs released in 2017. However, what has been most important for us is the feedback and input from our valued customers all over the world that helps us shape Skype. As we look forward to bringing you more features in 2018, here are some highlights of our 2017 milestones.

A brand new Skype on mobile and desktop

One of the biggest feature updates in 2017 was the release of the next generation of Skype for mobile in July. This release introduced a customizable, colorful design, a camera at your fingertips, and new ways to express yourself with reactions, and frames. We also added intelligence into your chats by integrating Cortana—the Microsoft virtual personal assistant—directly into the chat window. You can also now transfer funds via Money—a new Skype feature for friends and family using PayPal—right from within your Skype conversations.

These changes were brought first to Skype mobile and desktop clients and are now available in the new Skype for Windows 10. We are in the process of rolling out these updates to Skype for Mac, Windows 10 November Update (2016) and lower, Windows 8, Windows 7, and Linux.

All of these updates were inspired by a simple goal: to make Skype the center of your important conversations with your personal networks and, hopefully, empower you to turn your everyday conversations into experiences. To access these new Skype features, please ensure you are using the latest version of Skype by updating your mobile and desktop applications.

Innovations to help you get more done

This year has been a year of innovation at Skype, with new features, bots, and devices designed to enhance your day-to-day experiences.

Skype Bots—In 2017, we introduced several new bots with expanded capabilities to help you do everything from cook the perfect meal, race to the finish line with some of the world’s most accomplished athletes, or join Doctor Who on a quest to save the universe! In the coming year, look for more productive and enriching experiences directly via Skype.

Skype Professional Account Preview—This year also marked a milestone for self-employed working professionals who already utilize Skype to communicate with their customers. The Skype Professional Account desktop client (currently in preview in the U.S.) brings powerful new features to Skype—making managing your online business a whole lot easier. In addition to meeting with your clients on Skype, you can now book meetings, accept payments, and keep notes—all in one place.

Skype Translator—Skype Translator is now available for real-time voice and video calls in Japanese—bringing the number of real-time spoken languages to 10. Other spoken languages available on Skype Translator include: English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese (Mandarin), Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Arabic, and Russian. In addition, there are also over 60 IM languages available for Skype Translator.

Ambient devices—This year, Skype officially expanded to ambient devices—giving you a new, uniquely intelligent platform for Skype calling that extends beyond PC and mobile devices. The Harman Kardon Invoke speaker, with Cortana by Microsoft, is the first of these devices embedded with easy, voice-activated Skype calling to your Skype contacts, phone contacts, and local businesses.

In addition to Skype-to-Skype calling, which is always free, Invoke also features unlimited free outbound calling from the U.S. to mobiles and landlines based in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, and U.S. Virgin Islands. Restrictions apply—please read the Terms and Conditions of the full offer.

Skype Lite and SMS Insights—For our Skype Android customers in India, we introduced Skype Lite—a new lightweight version of the Skype app, optimized for 2G and unstable network connections. And based on your feedback, we added SMS Insights to Skype Lite—making life even easier for people on the go. SMS Insights goes far beyond simply organizing your messages—it aggregates the information you need and presents it at a glance, sorting it into categories like Finance, Shopping, Travel, Reminders, and Promotions. Easily interact with the messages you want while Insights offers relevant action links that allow you to pay bills, check in to flights, and even call customer support numbers.

Personal expressions—We had fun teaming up with Rogue Octopus, Steve Aoki, Hammer Films, Lucasfilm, and more to create original Skype Mojis and emoticons. Check out our new holiday-themed emoticons, frames, stickers, reactions, and Mojis to help you spread holiday cheer this December.

Momentum and awards—In 2017, Skype crossed a major milestone—surpassing one billion downloads from the Google Play Store. Additionally, after years of pushing the boundary of broadcast television with studio-quality Skype call integration, our Skype TX team was a recipient of a Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award in 2017. We are humbled by both honors and further motivated to continue providing reporters, entertainers, and consumers the next level of broadcast and communication innovations.

Updated with currency and color recognition, Seeing AI is available in 35 countries

iPhone with Seeing AI app

Since we first made Seeing AI available, there’s been 100,000 downloads of the app and it has assisted users with over 3 million tasks. We have never been more humbled by your feedback and are encouraged to do more! When we first released this, we launched with features such as the ability to hear what a product is via audibly locating the barcode, describing images, text and faces of friends and family as they come into view. Today, we’re excited to announce new features coming to the app that will build on these early results, provide new user experiences and allow us to continue to learn and innovate. These new features, such as currency, handwriting and color recognition, as well as light detection, are now available in the app in 35 countries, including the European Union.

Some of the new features now available in Seeing AI include:

  • Color recognition: Getting dressed in the morning just got easier with this new feature, which describes the color of objects, like garments in your closet.
  • Currency recognition: Seeing AI can now recognize the currency of US dollars, Canadian dollars, British Pounds and Euros. Checking how much change is in your pocket or leaving a cash tip at a restaurant is much easier.
  • Musical light detector: The app alerts you with a corresponding audible tone when you aim the phone’s camera at light in the environment. A newly convenient tool so you don’t have to touch hot bulbs to know that a light is switched off, or the battery pack’s LED is on.
  • Handwriting recognition: Expanding on the ability of the app to read printed text, such as on menus or signs, the newly improved ability to read handwriting means you can read personal notes in a greeting card, as well as printed stylized text not usually readable by optical character recognition.
  • Reading documents: Seeing AI can read you the document aloud without voiceover, with synchronized word highlighting. Also, it includes the ability to change the text size on the Document channel.
  • Ability to choose voices and speed: Personalization is key, and when you’re not using VoiceOver, this feature lets you choose between the voice that is used and how fast it talks.

With each of these new features, we make sure to protect personal data while ensuring the technology operates effectively and provides users the best experiences with our products. If you have questions, the Microsoft Privacy Statement explains how Microsoft collects, stores and uses personal information.

We continue to hear from you how Seeing AI is bringing value to your life. It’s more than humbling. Cameron Roles, a university lecturer at the Australian National University College of Law, believes there’s never been a better time in history to be a blind person.

“I absolutely love Seeing AI. If my children hand me a note from school or if I pick up a book, I can use Seeing AI to quickly capture that text and just give me a very brief instant overview of what’s on the document,” said Roles of the important capability the app has for reading text and handwriting. “I can quickly be right on top of it.”

“For me, I think we’re coming into a really exciting time,” said Roles. “The growth in artificial intelligence, augmented reality, self-driving cars… I feel that it’s a great time for all of us in society.”

“Technology can be such an enabler of good and such an enabler for people to shrink the world, for the world to come closer together, and for people to be able to achieve so much more than they ever could without it,” said Roles.

We’re excited to share these features and look forward to hearing from you who Seeing AI is making your world more inclusive. Its available in Apple’s App Store in 35 countries and when a new version is released, you will be shown the list of new features when you next launch the app.

Please if you have feedback, we want to hear it! This started as a prototype just a year ago, and while we’ve been thrilled with the progress, we know we have a long way to go. Please send your thoughts, feedback or questions to seeingai@microsoft.com.

If you have further questions or feedback, please contact the Disability Answer Desk. The Disability Answer Desk is there to assist via phone and chat, and in the United States, we also have an ASL option for our customers with hearing loss (+1 503-427-1234).

Progress Health Cloud tackles healthcare IT integration

The result of hospitals going digital has been the creation of disparate systems and applications, often at the expense of healthcare IT integration and a unified ecosystem in which data can flow seamlessly from one app to another.

Progress Software Corp., a software platform company based in Bedford, Mass., is hoping to fix this problem with its Progress Health Cloud, which was released today. The new enterprise cloud fully integrates front-end, back-end and data connectivity technologies into a serverless and HIPAA-compliant platform for quickly creating apps to drive patient engagement and better healthcare outcomes, Progress said in a press release.

Although Progress Health Cloud can’t solve large-scale patient data interoperability issues, it can ease associated healthcare IT integration problems, Dmitri Tcherevik, CTO at Progress, said in an interview with SearchHealthIT. “I don’t think an IT solution can be used to address a political [problem] that may exist in any particular organization … but we can help resolve it by providing an interoperable system and an integration platform,” he said. “No one has technology obstacles and difficulties as an excuse to integration, given the platform that we offer.”

The goal: A unified healthcare IT integration system

Progress’ Health Cloud comes equipped with HIPAA-compliant, prepackaged healthcare application templates, as well as prepackaged integrations with EHRs, according to the company. Some of the EHR vendors already on board include Epic Systems, Athenahealth, Cerner and GE Healthcare.

No one has technology obstacles and difficulties as an excuse to integration, given the platform that we offer.
Dmitri TcherevikCTO at Progress

Progress’ goal is to create a unified, connected health IT ecosystem. “EHR systems are responsible for creation, collection, management and retrieval of health records in a standard format that ensures interoperability with other elements of a healthcare IT solution,” Tcherevik said. “Progress Health Cloud provides a platform for assembling a complete IT solution that includes EHR as one of its elements.”

In addition to integrating with a variety of EHR vendors, Progress’ Health Cloud also enables healthcare IT integration with applications such as patient care management, remote patient monitoring, patient self-service, preventive healthcare and community engagement, Tcherevik said.

“Each such solution requires cross-platform mobile applications, a range of cloud services and connectors to EHR systems,” he said. “Progress Health Cloud provides application templates, cloud services, connectors to EHR systems and other sources of data.”

Health Cloud uses Kinvey serverless technology

All of this runs on the Kinvey serverless cloud platform, which Progress acquired over the summer, and it includes NativeScript components, which makes it easy to build cross-platform mobile experiences, the press release said.

“Typically, when a company needs to deploy an application, it also needs to provision cloud services … like authentication, data management and event management. And provisioning those services also requires provisioning servers, machines,” he said. “It can be a virtual machine or a physical machine somewhere in the data center, and that requires a lot of effort … and that may also be expensive.”

Dmitri Tcherevik, CTO, ProgressDmitri Tcherevik

With a serverless platform, Tcherevik explained, if health IT developers build an application, they do not have to manage virtual or physical machines or servers. Rather, they only need to write code to form certain functions or services and then deploy that code on Progress’ Health Cloud platform, which will take care of the computing resources and the storage required to run the code, he said.

“There are no servers that developers have to deal with, and because of that … [Progress Health Cloud] simplifies and accelerates the whole process of application development,” Tcherevik said.

Progress has piloted its Health Cloud with organizations such as Boston Scientific, Johnson & Johnson, Athenahealth and BayHealth Development, a University of California San Francisco Health and John Muir Health joint-venture company that is focused on infrastructure development to support the needs of Canopy Health accountable care network.
