More Windows 10 devices mean more choices for small and midsize businesses

The productivity needs of small and midsize businesses are as individual and unique as the products and services that set them apart. A graphic designer needs processor power, professional software and a crystal-clear display. A clothing retailer wants to use a single device to process customer payments and analyze the business data. A sales manager needs to keep up with mail and messages on the go, in real time. To choose the best device, businesses must know who will use it, where they will use it, and what it will be used for. Those needs will result in different priorities for size, weight and style, but all businesses agree that they want the most powerful and secure computer they can get for their budget.

Fortunately, businesses have more devices than ever to help them process transactions, communicate quickly and analyze data — all building on the power of Microsoft’s new Windows 10 operating system. Microsoft works with partners throughout the tech ecosystem to equip a growing number of devices with the newest, most secure Windows ever. This helps businesses choose the form factors, styles and prices that fit their needs, while enjoying a consistent experience with universal apps, familiar features and advanced security.

“One size does not fit all,” says Jordan Chrysafidis, vice president of U.S. OEM at Microsoft. “For one business, ruggedness is a must have; for another, touch-screen tablet versatility comes first. But they all need devices that are secure, easy to use and always up to date. By partnering with manufacturers to support a broad range of devices with Windows 10, we’re helping businesses get exactly what they need most.”

Celebrating Windows 10 Devices Around the World

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been celebrating new Windows 10 devices as they were unveiled around the world. It’s been an incredible journey – traveling 29,000 miles in less than two weeks from NYC to Barcelona to San Francisco to Taipei to Tokyo to Seoul and back to San Francisco. We’ve been celebrating our innovative partners and the Windows 10 devices they are bringing to people around the world.

We started off in NYC, where we introduced new Surface, Lumia, and Band devices and shared the latest from HoloLens, and Xbox. With products like Surface Book, you can see how we’re investing in hardware experiences to reinvent categories and create opportunities for the Windows ecosystem. Our new hardware was designed to be complementary to our partners, and I was excited to hit the road and join them as they unveiled their holiday device line-up.

On our world tour, we saw over 50 great new devices from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, and Toshiba. You can see some highlights below. Nick Parker, our Corporate Vice President of OEM partnerships, also collected some of his favorite photos to share in this Sway – you can check it out here.

Since the debut of Windows 10, we’ve encouraged our hardware partners to put the operating system to work – and they are doing just that with their incredible new devices, which light up with Cortana, Microsoft Edge, Continuum, Xbox, and so much more. Along with our partners, we can’t wait for you to enjoy a great new Windows 10 device this holiday!

Our world tour began in Barcelona, where HP announced new premium PCs featuring one-of-kind hardware in sleek industrial designs, bright high-resolution displays and Audio by Bang & Olufsen. New devices like the HP Spectre x2, HP ENVY 8 Note, HP Notebook, HP ENVY Curved All-in-One, HP ENVY All-in-One, HP Pavillion Gaming Notebook, HP Spectre x360, HP Stream Notebook PCs, and HP ENVY 32 Media Display were unveiled.  Each PC is built with powerful processors and delivers amazing Windows 10 experiences. HP’s line-up – which ranges from $299 to $1499 – takes the innovation of Windows and makes it accessible to everyone. It was my honor to join Ron Coughlin, SVP GM Consumer PC’s, services and solutions- Hewlett Packard for this event in beautiful Barcelona.

While I was in Barcelona, Yusuf Mehdi joined Dell in New York City to showcase several of the newest Dell XPS devices, optimized especially for Windows 10. Dell’s new devices, including the Dell XPS 15 laptop, Dell XPS 13 laptop, and Dell XPS 12 2-in-1 shown in New York City bring the best of Windows 10 to life and offer our customers a range of choices.

Next, I returned to San Francisco, where I joined ASUS Chairman, Jonney Shih onstage at ROG Unleashed. Jonney and team introduced the new Republic of Gaming (ROG) hardware line- up, built exclusively on Windows 10. Incredible new gaming devices were showcased, including the all-new ROG GX700, ROG G752, and ROG G20 Compact Desktop PL. It was fun to highlight the gaming innovations on Windows 10 – Game DVR, an Xbox app, and DirectX 12 – and see unprecedented speed, performance and graphics come to life on the ROG line-up.

Next we were off to Asia, where we first joined Acer in Taipei to showcase a range of new devices, making Windows 10 accessible to everyone from office workers to students to people in emerging markets around the world. The Aspire R14 convertible notebook and the Aspire Z3-700 portable all-in-one PC are built to deliver Windows 10 experiences with prices starting at US$699 and €599 in EMEA. Acer’s full line-up of Windows 10 devices spans form factors and price points, including 2-in-1s, notebooks, all-in-ones, phones Predator gaming rigs and the Aspire One Cloudbook starting at US$169 and designed with education customers in mind.

In Tokyo, we joined Toshiba to celebrate the Toshiba dynaPad. In Japan, our Windows customers have the highest rate of pen usage worldwide, so it was the perfect place to showcase the new advanced note-taking technology in Toshiba’s new dynaPad, taking advantage of the ability to write and annotate on our Microsoft Edge browser. In addition to being a powerful note-taking device – designed to replicate the way people write on paper – the dynaPad has great support for Continuum, and is ultra-thin and lightweight.

My last tour stop was with LG in Seoul, Korea. I joined Brian Kwon, President of LG Home Entertainment Company, for a panel discussion on Windows 10 and LG devices. Windows 10 is off to a great start in Korea, with the fastest adoption the market has ever seen for Windows – five times faster than Windows 8, with over 1 billion hours spent on Windows 10 since launch. LG announced their new Windows 10 devices, including the gram 13”, gram 14”, Tabbook Duo (10.1” Tablet), and 21:9 Curved AIO. And, we’re excited to welcome the LG gram to Microsoft Stores this holiday.

LG Gram image 1

The fun continued yesterday as Joe Belfiore wrapped up the tour with Lenovo in San Francisco, where they announced their new line up of YOGA PCs built with Windows 10, the Lenovo YOGA 900 Convertible Laptop and the Lenovo YOGA Home 900 Portable All-in-One Desktop. These two next-gen home computers provide portability, adaptability, and style, all while taking full advantage of Windows 10 features. The YOGA 900 and YOGA Home 900 continue Lenovo’s longstanding trend of blending design, functionality, and user choice.

Lenovo Event

This tour was a fun opportunity to highlight new Windows 10 devices that were shown for the first time, but the ecosystem is already robust. Last month, our device partners built more Windows devices than they ever have before in the history of Windows and since launch, we’ve been excited to see share increases for Windows at retail. And we’re just getting started. By this holiday, we expect to see the widest range of Windows hardware ever available. Our partners are bringing hundreds of new Windows 10 devices to market now through holiday.

Thanks to all of our partners for an incredible few weeks!

Dell brings Windows 10 to Life with New XPS Devices

I am honored to join Dell today in New York City to showcase several of the newest XPS devices, optimized especially for Windows 10. It’s been an amazing journey to get to this point, with over a year of deep collaboration on new experiences, the positive early reception of Windows 10 which is now running on over 110 million devices worldwide, and now the chance to introduce the new XPS family to the world. Dell has been an amazing partner throughout, helping to unlock new customer value and choice, being one of the first to ship Windows 10 on new PCs this summer, partnering on the Surface Enterprise alliance, and joining us now as we celebrate all the innovative new devices on Windows 10.

With Windows 10, we are focused on delivering all new experiences with features like Cortana, Microsoft Edge, Windows Hello and the new Windows Store featuring hundreds of thousands of apps and games. We worked closely with Dell to ensure their new devices could bring the best of Windows 10 to life and offer our customers a range of choices. I’m excited to share with you the details of Dell’s new devices – the Dell XPS 15 laptop, Dell XPS 13 laptop, and Dell XPS 12 2-in-1.

Dell XPS 15

Two back-to-back Dell XPS 15 Touch notebook computers. One model is open 90 degrees facing left, the other is open 45 degrees facing back right.

The XPS 15 is one of the world’s smallest laptops with a full 15-inch screen – a screen that features Dell’s Infinity Edge display technology. This PC weighs as little as 3.9 pounds, but is definitely a notebook for power users, for either office work or gaming. It includes one-cable Thunderbolt 3 docking technology, as well as a minimalist form factor.

The XPS 15’s screen features Dell’s UltraSharp 4K HD resolution and it meets the 100 percent minimum Adobe standards for RGB – perfect for a graphic designer on the go. The XPS 15 features the latest sixth-generation Intel CPUs, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M GPU, up to 16 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of PCI Express solid-state drive (SSD) space for fast load times. It will be available in the U.S. starting at $999 on October 8.

Dell XPS 13

Dell XPS 13

The XPS 13 is Dell’s slightly smaller model. This laptop received great acclaim at CES 2015, and is now based – like its other XPS cousins – on top-of-the-line Intel CPUs, features SSD storage, up to 16 GB of RAM, and Thunderbolt 3 technology.

One of the smallest 13-inch laptops available, the XPS 13 combines size, power, and battery life – and, it’s designed to function perfectly with Windows 10. The XPS 13 will be available in the U.S. on October 8, starting at $799. Dell is also offering a special Gold version of the XPS 13, available at select retailers for $1649 MSRP.

Dell XPS 12 2-in-1

Dell XPS 12
The XPS 12 2-in-1 features a magnetic connection that lets you pull it apart with one hand, making it flexible and versatile. The XPS 12 is one of the only 2-in-1’s with a true 4K Ultra HD display option for the screen, putting it on-par with top-quality desktop monitors. It also features two cameras: an 8-megapixel camera on the back of the tablet and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

The XPS 12 comes standard with a mobility base, which includes a back-lit keyboard and a touchpad, and a tablet stand and a case, which keeps everything nice and safe for travel. With Continuum in Windows 10, you can take advantage of all the great Windows 10 features and enjoy your PC in tablet and laptop mode. It will be available in the U.S. on November 5, starting at $999.

It’s incredible to see the innovation Dell is bringing to the market with this new lineup of XPS devices and they’re all designed from the ground up to deliver an amazing Windows 10 experience. I’m proud of the work our teams have done together.

We look forward to the customer response for these new devices and to delighting new and existing Dell customers this holiday and beyond. The XPS 15 laptop, XPS 13 laptop, and XPS 12 2-in-1 can help you be more productive, have more fun, and enjoy the very best of Windows 10.

New Surface Enterprise Initiative Will Further Windows 10 Adoption

From the beginning, Windows 10 was built for the enterprise. Feedback from millions of IT Pros helped shape our best enterprise version of Windows ever. Ready for corporate deployments, Windows 10 was designed to help companies protect against modern cyber-attacks, deliver experiences employees will love and enable continuous innovation with a platform that keeps companies up to date with the latest technology. Only Windows 10 includes built-in enterprise grade security, so employees can replace passwords with more secure options, help protect corporate data and corporate identities, and only run software they trust. New management and deployment tools simplify device management and help lower costs, and enable businesses with the enterprise strength of the Azure cloud.

With 75 million devices already running Windows 10, it’s a good time for enterprises to consider Windows 10. And today, we’re excited to announce a new initiative that will make it even easier for our enterprise customers to experience the best of Windows 10.

As we get ready to roll out new Windows 10 enterprise capabilities this month, we’re happy to introduce the Surface Enterprise Initiative focused on bringing greater mobility and productivity to organizations with the power of Windows 10. This initiative kicks off with an expanded partnership with Dell to deliver premium Windows 10 devices and world-class services and support to enterprise customers. This is the first in a series of partnerships to deliver even more value to our customers by bringing together amazing Windows 10 devices, industry specific apps and solutions, and unmatched sales, services and support. We also plan to leverage our longstanding relationships with HP, Accenture and Avanade to enable more customers to enjoy the benefits of Windows 10.

Dell First to Offer Surface Pro with Industry-Leading Support

Today’s expanded partnership with Dell represents a bold step forward as we marry amazing devices, such as Surface Pro, with enterprise-class service and support. Mobile professionals tell us they want a device that’s both portable and powerful — and they love the Surface Pro 3. And with new security features in Windows 10, IT professionals are enthusiastic about how they can deploy Surface more easily and securely throughout their enterprise.

However, our largest global customers have told us they want to buy Surface from one partner, in one transaction and have devices deployed all over the world. To meet that need, Dell will now add Surface Pro to their device lineup and sell it along with their world-class enterprise support and services.

Starting in early October in the United States and Canada, for the first time, Dell will sell Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface accessories through its North America commercial sales organization and later in the year on Dell.com/Work. This offering will be rolled out to the remaining 28 markets of our Surface commercial channel starting in early 2016. And, Surface Pro devices sold through Dell will include the option of Dell Services, including Dell Hardware Warranty, ProSupport with Accidental Damage Service, and Configuration and Deployment Services.

New Windows 10 enterprise capabilities coming this month

This month, we will roll out key enterprise features to our Windows Insiders, on track for broader availability later this year. For the first time, enterprises can experience features like Enterprise Data Protection (EDP), which provides personal and corporate data protection wherever data flows; Microsoft Passport for enterprise which helps business workers securely login to applications, websites and networks without the need for a password; and Windows Store For Business, which delivers business customers a unified Windows app store experience including a choice of Windows store apps alongside company-owned apps, and allow IT administers to acquire apps in bulk.

Delivering more value to customers

Windows is central to our commitment to deliver the technology that empowers people and organizations all over the planet to do great things. Windows 10 and the portfolio of Windows 10 devices hitting the market right now are starting to do just that.  Together with our partners, we’re excited to deliver the tools enterprises need to transform their business.

A recent Spiceworks report stated 60% of IT departments surveyed have tested Windows 10 and 40% plan to start rolling out Windows 10 this year. It also noted, 74% of businesses plan to adopt Windows 10 by 2017, which would make Windows 10 the most quickly deployed version of Windows in history.

We’re excited about our new partnerships and look forward to more enterprise customers trying the new Windows 10 enterprise features which will be rolling out this month.

Business Ready Holiday Devices

Lately we’ve been focused on providing you with key information on Windows 10 and you’ve had the opportunity to hear from Jim Alkove about several areas of investment for Windows 10 for business – including security and identity, deployment, manageability and enterprise Store capabilities. While we look forward to sharing more on Windows 10 early next year, we wanted to take this opportunity to talk about some of the exciting business ready Windows devices in stores this holiday season. We realize that PC shopping is a year-round exercise for businesses, but among the many devices highlighted for the holiday season this year, there are some great stand-outs for business – here are just a few

Announced at IFA Berlin in September, as a refresh to its ever popular ThinkPad Helix, the Lenovo Helix 2nd Gen. – a detachable 2-in-1, that is even thinner, lighter and has a better battery life than the previous model. Powered by Windows 8.1 Pro, it offers business-grade security, the ability to join a domain, and more. The Helix also has a detachable keyboard, providing options for an on-the-go tablet or use as a traditional laptop, and an active stylus for quick notes using the handwriting recognition feature, adding to your productivity, wherever you are.

Another device announced at IFA Berlin this year, the Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny-in-One 23, a modular all-in-one desktop offering easy setup for public and private enterprises. The Tiny-in-One monitor allows IT managers to refresh the CPU and monitor separately without having to replace the entire system. The Kensington lock secures both the monitor and the device itself, and is also compatible with other data security features such as Smart USB Protection and Bluetooth lock.

Dell Latitude 13 7000 Series 2 in 1

The Dell Latitude 13 7000 Series 2-in-1 is designed to keep you productive – on the road or at the office – with powerful business-class features and security built right in to keep your data protected. Use the device as a detachable 13-inch tablet with six hours of all day battery life, plus four additional hours in the keyboard. The device also touts a full-size business-class single point ISO keyboard with standard backlight and the convenience of two USB 3.0 ports on the keyboard base.

HP Pro X2

Last but certainly not least, the HP Pro x2 612 is HP’s thin, light and powerful computing alternative for business. Like the Dell Latitude, the HP Pro x2 612 has a battery in the tablet and one in the Power Keyboard, allowing business customers to benefit from the dual batteries with up to 14 hours of battery life. And the HP Pro x2 612 also comes with an optional battery-free Wacom pen with built-in holder. It also offers HP BIOSphere, HP Client Security, and option fingerprint reader to help keep devices safe and secure.

As mentioned, we are working hard to ensure that compatibility between Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 is excellent. This also applies to hardware: we are designing Windows 10 to have the same overall hardware requirements as Windows 7 and Windows 8, making it possible to run Windows 10 on a vast majority of existing devices. For that reason, we see device purchases today as a great investment toward the future. We look forward to sharing more details about the upgrade path soon. And, in the meantime, we welcome your participation in the Windows Insider Program where you can experience new builds as soon as they’re available and have an opportunity to influence product development decisions through the Windows Feedback app directly within the product.
