For Sale – Intel NUC6CAYH 8GB RAM/240GB SSD

JavaScript is disabled. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding.

As title, for sale is one Intel NUC6CAYH with one stick 8GB RAM and an Integral V series 240GB SSD which has 198GB free after Windows & prog’s.
This has a licensed Win 10 Pro installed together with the 1909 update, as well as: VLC; BBC iPlayer; ITV Hub; All 4; My 5; Amazon; Netflix; Youtube; Firefox; and Glary Utilities.
It has had very little use (see below) and is in excellent condition with factory protective film still attached to the top surface and to the front.
It all works just as it should with zero problems noted; it comes in the original box with backplate, booklets etc. plus it comes with an extra spare power supply.

The plan was that following a major operation I would be bed-ridden for around three months and this was going to be the bedroom PC “link” to the outside world while I recuperated. The spare power supply was to allow easy removal from behind my bedroom TV to wherever I needed it, & the PSU has been tested and works just fine. So that’s why it was set up as almost a Windows HTPC, so that I could use it for both media and business purposes BUT thankfully my recovery surprised my consultant as much as it surprised me and I never needed to use it. And that’s why it sat in my bedroom for over a year doing nothing other then me updating it when I remembered to.

Payment by BT only please (no PP) and delivery will be by Royal Mail Special Delivery with me posting it as soon as I can following receipt of payment.
If you want to collect from the Lincolnshire coast you’re welcome.
Price: £170 including delivery

I may also sell my NUC6i5SYH with 16GB RAM/500GB Samsung 950 Pro M2 PCIE/480GB Kingston SSD if anybody is interested at a sensible price? This one is fast with the Samsung software benchmarking the 950 Pro at 2508MB/s read & 1501 write in this system. Again with Win10 Pro installed and with original box, and in good condition

8 new ways to empower Firstline Workers and transform the way they work with Microsoft 365

Companies at the forefront of digital transformation recognize how critical it is to enable all of their people with the right technology and tools. That’s why, in industries like retail, hospitality, and manufacturing, there’s a movement underway to digitally empower the Firstline Workforce—the more than 2 billion people worldwide who work in service- or task-oriented roles.

With Microsoft 365, the world’s productivity cloud, we’re in a unique position to help companies of all sizes and across all industries provide their employees the tools and expertise they need to do their best work, without sacrificing the security of their organization or customers’ data. Giving Firstline Workers the tools they need requires companies to address unique user experience, security and compliance, and IT management.

Microsoft 365 for Firstline Workers

Microsoft 365 combines intuitive best-in-class productivity apps with intelligent cloud services to empower your Firstline Workforce.

It’s inspiring to see how industry leaders, like IKEA and Mattress Firm, are driving higher levels of employee engagement and enhancing the customer experience by putting tools like Microsoft Teams into the hands of their Firstline Workforce. IKEA is connecting everyone in the organization with familiar features like chat and video calls and digitizing firstline processes such as shift management to save time and cost.

This video was created by Microsoft, with the agreement of Ingka Group.

Mattress Firm is empowering Firstline Workers with real-time access to the information, resources, and expertise they need to delight customers and provide a better shopping experience.

Ahead of next week’s National Retail Federation (NRF) tradeshow, we are excited to introduce new capabilities for Firstline Workers coming to Microsoft 365. Here’s a look at what’s coming soon:

New tools that make it easier for Firstline Workers to communicate and manage tasks

  1. Walkie Talkie in Teams—This new push-to-talk experience enables clear, instant, and secure voice communication over the cloud, turning employee- or company-owned smartphones and tablets into a walkie-talkie. This functionality, built natively into Teams, reduces the number of devices employees must carry, and lowers costs for IT. Unlike analog devices with unsecure networks, customers no longer have to worry about crosstalk or eavesdropping from outsiders. And since Walkie Talkie functions over Wi-Fi or cellular data, this capability can be used across geographic locations. Walkie Talkie will be available in private preview in Teams in the first half of this year.

Intuitive push-to-talk experience to connect team members across departments and locations.

  1. Tasks targeting, publishing, and reportingWith Tasks in Teams, now customers can drive consistent execution of store operations at scale across all of an organization’s locations. Corporate and regional leadership can send task lists targeted to the relevant locations, such as specific retail stores, and track their progress through automatic real-time reports. Managers have tools to easily direct activities within their stores, and Firstline Workers have a simple prioritized list available via their personal or company-issued device showing them exactly what to do next. Tasks targeting, publishing, and reporting is coming to Teams in the first half of this year.

Corporate headquarters can target, assign, and track tasks across locations. Firstline Workers can view tasks assigned to them and across the store.

  1. Workforce management integrations—Customers using leading third-party workforce management systems—such as Kronos and JDA—for scheduling and time and attendance can now start integrating directly with Shifts via Shifts Graph APIs and SDK. Supported scenarios include management of shifts, schedules, schedule groups, swap requests, time off requests, and open shift requests. The JDA connector for Shifts is open sourced and available on GitHub. The Kronos connector for Shifts will also be available on GitHub later this quarter.

Enhanced identity and access management features that make it easier for IT pros to keep Firstline Workers productive and secure

  1. SMS sign-in—With SMS sign-in, Firstline Workers are able to sign in to their Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) account using one-time SMS codes—reducing the need to remember usernames and passwords for all their Microsoft 365 and custom applications. Once enrolled, the user is prompted to enter their phone number, which generates an SMS text with a one-time password. SMS sign-in is a single sign-on (SSO) experience, enabling Firstline Workers to seamlessly access all the apps they are authorized to use. This new sign-in method can be enabled for select groups and configured at the user level in the My Staff portal—helping to reduce the burden on IT.

Image of one-time SMS codes being used to sign in to a device. Three phones display a code received and used by a Firstline Worker.

  1. Shared device sign-out—Many Firstline Workers use a single tablet or mobile device that is shared between shifts. This can pose unique security challenges to the organization when different employees who have access to different types of data use the same device over the course of a day. With shared device sign-out, Firstline Workers will be able to log out of all their Microsoft 365 and custom applications and browser sessions with one click at the end of their shift—preventing their data as well as any access to customer data from being accessible to the next user of that device.

With one click, Firstline Workers can sign out of a shared Android device and log out of all applications and browser sessions to prevent sensitive data being shared with another device user.

  1. Off-shift access controls for Teams app—IT administrators can now configure Teams to limit employee access to the app on their personal device outside of working hours. This feature helps ensure employees are not involuntarily working while not on shift and helps employers to comply with labor regulations. This feature will begin rolling out to customers this quarter.

Display a message and/or disable access to Teams app when Firstline Workers are off shift.

  1. Delegated user management—Firstline Managers can approve password resets and enable employees to use their phone numbers for SMS sign-in, all via a single customizable portal enabled by IT for Firstline Managers. Delegated user management can give Firstline Managers access to the My Staff portal, so they can unblock staff issues—reducing the burden of identity management on IT, and keeping employees connected to the apps they need on the job.

Through the My Staff portal, delegated user management enables a Firstline Manager to manage their team’s credentials and assist with password resets.

  1. Inbound provisioning from SAP SuccessFactors to Azure AD—Azure AD’s user provisioning service now integrates with SAP SuccessFactors, making it easier than ever to onboard and manage Firstline Workers’ identities at scale, across any application using Azure AD. This feature—in public preview—builds upon the ability to provision users to Azure AD from Workday, another popular human capital management (HCM) system, already generally available. Integrating with these systems of record helps IT to scale Firstline Workers’ onboarding and productivity from day one.

With Azure AD’s user provisioning service now integrated with SAP SuccessFactors, as well as Workday, it’s easier than ever to onboard Firstline Workers user identities at scale. Shown here, you can start the provisioning cycle and use the progress bar and provisioning logs to track the provisioning process.

All of these capabilities are expected to roll out in the first half of this year except where noted.

ClearSky Data launches service for VMware Cloud on AWS

ClearSky Data launched a new service that will enable VMware Cloud on AWS customers to protect their data in inexpensive object storage.

The new ClearSky Data service gives VMware Cloud on AWS customers the chance to keep their existing backup applications and use Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) as the back-end storage repository. The startup’s software can transform the block- and file-based data from the certified backup applications to an object format to enable data protection and archiving in Amazon S3, according to Laz Vekiarides, CTO and co-founder of ClearSky Data.

VMware Cloud (VMC) on AWS users can choose certified backup options from vendors such as Commvault, Dell EMC, Druva and Veeam. But those vendors typically offer repositories in Amazon’s Elastic Block Store (EBS). Commvault is the only certified VMC option to back up natively to Amazon’s more economical object-based S3, according to Bryan Young, a group product manager of vSphere external storage at VMware.

“Customers are generally wed to their particular backup vendor. And they do not like to change because they want a common backup application across the enterprise,” Young said. “But they also want the lowest cost storage for their long-term backups.”

Extends on-premises virtual server environments

The VMware Cloud on AWS on-demand service lets customers extend their on-premises server virtualization environments to Amazon’s cloud. The service is based on VMware Cloud Foundation, which integrates vSphere server virtualization, vSAN software-defined storage, NSX software-defined networking and security, and vCenter management software.

VMware Cloud customers create a virtual private cloud (VPC) to run their application workloads on vSphere VMs in Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) bare-metal infrastructure. VMware’s vSAN creates the local storage on SSDs in the host server cluster to keep the data.

“Part of the issue with the cloud inside of Amazon EC2 is that at any given point in time, if you decide to shut any of these [servers] down, all the data that’s inside of them gets lost,” Vekiarides said. “So, obviously, you need a place to keep all of your data when you’re not using your VMware cluster.”

ClearSky Data service for VMware Cloud on AWS
ClearSky Data service for VMware Cloud on AWS architectural diagram.

A third-party backup proxy runs in a VMware Cloud on AWS software-defined data center and copies data using the vSphere Storage APIs for data protection (VADP). The backup proxy copies data to an EC2-based backup repository that typically uses Amazon’s EBS.

Cache 64 TB per backup volume

ClearSky’s Cloud Edge appliance can connect to the backup application and cache up to 64 TB of data per VM guest-attached volume to enable fast access to frequently accessed data. Vekiarides said ClearSky can have many such volumes online, up to 4 PB total. On the back end, the Cloud Edge appliance connects to the ClearSky Data Network’s Amazon S3 storage via AWS Direct Connect to protect and archive all the data.

ClearSky supports a recovery point objective of less than 10 minutes for point-in-time snapshots and a recovery time objective of less than a minute once the customer’s applications are running.

In addition to the cloud-based deployment option, customers could run VMware virtual servers, third-party backup applications and ClearSky Edge Cache appliances on premises. The Edge Cache appliance’s software would deduplicate and compress the data and convert it to object format for archiving in ClearSky Network’s Amazon S3. The data from the on-premises Edge Cache and off-site Cloud Edge appliances would be stored in a common Amazon S3 repository.

ClearSky Data used the VMware Cloud on AWS service to build out a server cluster to test its new service. Vekiarides said ClearSky engineers made minor changes to the deployment software to ensure it works and meets performance targets in the AWS cloud environment.

Pricing for the ClearSky Data service ranges from 6 cents to 20 cents per GB, per month depending on the use case, quality of service and data capacity.

ClearSky Data does not charge fees for replication and customers do not incur AWS egress charges to restore their data, according to Vekiarides. He said egress charges generally do not apply because nearly all of the data is cached either inside AWS’ cloud or somewhere in ClearSky’s network.

Hyper-V Quick Tip: How to Enable Nested Virtualization

Q: How Do I Enable Nested Virtualization for Hyper-V Virtual Machines

A: Pass $true for Set-VMProcessor’s “ExposeVirtualizationExtensions” parameter

In its absolute simplest form:

Set-VMProcessor has several other parameters which you can view in its online help.

As shown above, the first parameter is positional, meaning that it guesses that I supplied a virtual machine’s name because it’s in the first slot and I didn’t tell it otherwise. For interactive work, that’s fine. In scripting, try to always fully-qualify every parameter so that you and other maintainers don’t need to guess:

The Set-VMProcessor cmdlet also accepts pipeline input. Therefore, you can do things like:

Requirements for Nested Virtualization

In order for nested virtualization to work, you must meet all of the following:

  • The Hyper-V host must be at least the Anniversary Edition version of Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, Hyper-V Server 2016, or Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel
  • The Hyper-V host must be using Intel CPUs. AMD is not yet supported
  • A virtual machine must be off to have its processor extensions changed

No configuration changes are necessary for the host.

Microsoft only guarantees that you can run Hyper-V nested within Hyper-V. Other hypervisors may work, but you will not receive support either way. You may have mixed results trying to run different versions of Hyper-V. I am unaware of any support statement on this, but I’ve had problems running mismatched levels of major versions.

Memory Changes for Nested Virtual Machines

Be aware that a virtual machine with virtualization extensions exposed will always use its configured value for Startup memory. You cannot use Dynamic Memory, nor can you change the virtual machine’s fixed memory while it is running.

Remember, as always, I’m here to help, so send me any questions you have on this topic using the question form below and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

4 steps to engage employees with new live events in Microsoft 365 – Microsoft 365 Blog

Earlier this month, we announced new intelligent event capabilities in Microsoft 365 that enable anyone to create live and on-demand events for teams and across the organization. Today, we invite you to use the public preview of live events in Microsoft 365 and discover new ways to foster connection and engagement between leaders and employees at every level in your organization.

More than ever before, employees in the modern workplace seek work environments that unlock creativity, make their lives more productive and fulfilling, and foster a sense of connection with their organization’s mission and purpose.

A critical first step for your organization to thrive in this new culture of work is to drive alignment of your people around shared purpose and goals. Leaders realize that organizations who do this well have an advantage in attracting and retaining an engaged workforce.

Here are four ways your organization can enable leaders and employees to connect with new live events in Microsoft 365:

1—Use live events to kickstart interactive discussions across your organization

Today, executives at Microsoft—including CEO Satya Nadella—use Microsoft 365 to connect and communicate with employees around the globe. Now, any company or organization with Microsoft 365 can create these moments of high engagement, where people are focused on leaders and their messages and ask questions to clarify or reinforce conversations in the community.

Using Microsoft Stream, Teams, or Yammer, you can create a live event wherever your audience, team, or community resides. Attendees receive notifications and can participate in real-time, with high-definition video and interactive discussion using web, mobile, or desktop.

Following an event, it’s easy to make the recording available on an event page, allowing you to watch the event on your own schedule and catch up quickly with powerful AI features that unlock the content of the event recording. The recording is automatically transcribed and detects changes in speakers—making it simple to search for content later.

For employees who are in different time zones or unable to attend live, the conversation keeps going, so they still feel connected to leaders and peers—helping to overcome geographical or organizational boundaries.

The event and recordings are powered by Microsoft Stream, the intelligent video service in Office 365.

Image of a laptop open to display a live event in Microsoft 365.

2—Foster sustained dialogue in open communities

Give everyone a voice—before, during, and after a live event in Microsoft 365—with Yammer communities that span functions or the entire organization. Providing a forum for employees to be heard is an important piece of transforming a culture. These communities are where people can come any time to raise ideas, concerns, or questions, and where leaders can reply in an authentic way.

An active Yammer community builds trust and a sense of connection and belonging. And it provides a forum where employees who might not feel comfortable speaking out during a live event can connect directly with leaders.

With inline message translation, live events in Microsoft 365 empowers people to express themselves in their own language.

3—Create an intranet site for leaders to share events, blogs, video, news, and resources

Communicate at scale as a leader with a continuous, online presence using content, conversation, and video channels within a SharePoint communications site. You can optimize for news distribution and blogs, and deepen engagement with related content, polls and surveys, and readership analytics.

This is also a great spot to share recorded events for later viewing. Simply create a dedicated page for each event where employees can submit questions and comments in advance. Leaders and organizers can then use this input to craft the messaging and content of the events.

4—Plan corporate communications and measure impact

Executive and internal communications may be managed by a team of one or a team of many—but it takes careful planning and execution to ensure success. Microsoft Teams—the hub for teamwork in Office 365—is ideally suited to work together in the creation and production of events and other executive communications. It provides an effective backstage for your live event, giving you a shared space to work with speakers and approve content before sharing with a broader audience.

Once you have begun engaging your audience, every message within a Yammer community has a visible count of how many people your post has reached. This helps both community organizers and employees understand what is being read. Group insights demonstrate how the knowledge and information created in the community benefit people—regardless of their membership status in the group. For example, passive visitors may gain value from group conversations and apply the information elsewhere in their daily work. You can also see the number of views for an event recording and across a channel, and how many people liked the video. Pages and news articles also have statistics to understand readership.

Empowering all leaders across an organization

Leadership, of course, does not just refer to organizational leaders. Leaders of communities may be subject matter experts, functional managers, or passionate individuals who are leading areas of expertise, practices, or interest groups. These same capabilities in Microsoft 365 can enable leaders at any level to create and sustain connection with their communities.

Patrick Yates, manager of Diversity and Inclusion at TDS Telecom, considers community connections and engagement an important part of the employee experience, and a boon to recruiting talent. “Younger generations entering the workforce especially want a modern, inclusive environment—to be part of something that’s larger than themselves.”

Connect your employees and leaders today

Experience the public preview of live events in Microsoft 365, and get started on connecting your leaders and employees today. We will be adding additional features and functionality based on your feedback in the Tech Community.

To create a live event, you will need an Office 365 E3 or E5 license and your admin must give you permission to do so. To attend a live event, you need an Office 365 license for authenticated users. Public (anonymous) access is possible in specific configurations.

For more information on the intelligent event capabilities, visit the Microsoft 365 live events post on Tech Community.
