Better meetings with AI, teens focus on digital civility and advancing blockchain for enterprises – Weekend Reading: Aug. 11 – The Official Microsoft Blog

No dog days of summer here. This week, Microsoft worked on enterprise technology, modern workplaces and new ways to improve productivity and gaming. And that’s not including teens who gave up part of their summer to work on digital civility. Let’s take a look.

How can artificial intelligence (AI) make meetings less painful? This week’s .future podcast explores that question and others in a lively discussion on technology that’s changing productivity, collaboration and work in the 21st century. The episode is the last podcast in the series’ season.

Also this week, Microsoft introduced the Coco Framework to make blockchain technology ready for enterprises. The Coco Framework is a pioneering innovation that addresses the need for transaction speed, distributed governance and data confidentiality – ultimately advancing commercial adoption of blockchain and cementing its potential to transform business across many sectors.

It may be summer, but a group of teens were hard at work at the inaugural meeting of Microsoft’s new Council for Digital Good in Redmond, Washington. The youths came together to discuss how to advance digital civility and safer online interactions.

Microsoft introduced the new Outlook.com beta, which has an improved photo experience, new personalization options and a smarter inbox that shows quick suggestions as you type. A toggle switch lets users easily move between the beta and regular Outlook.com experience.

Xbox insiders got the first look at a major Xbox update to the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC gaming system. The release was designed to make Xbox gaming more fun, personalized and social, with better navigation, new customization choices and a more immersive community experience.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Live Creators Program rolled out on Xbox One and Windows 10 with its first wave of games from developers large and small. The program allows any developer to quickly and directly publish their games to Xbox One and Windows 10, with a simplified certification process and no concept approval required.

The new MINECON Earth livestream event and related community events were announced this week to help more people celebrate “Minecraft” and its global community. Fans around the world will be able to watch the interactive livestream on Nov. 18.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 movie promo

Finally, in app news, Spotify became available on Xbox One in 34 markets around the world and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” arrived in the Windows Store two weeks before heading to Blu-ray.

For Sale – Hauppague & Peak TV Tuners & passive ATi 4550 GFX card

These are sitting here having been removed working from my TV PC running Windows 7 Media Center.
The accessories have not been used as MCE has it’s own IR receiver and remote.

Everything included is in the picture. Postage is not included
I’m hoping someone will want a couple of things so I can combine.
Postage will be at cost and your choice, I have boxes to hand and work from home so can organise couriers or post.

SOLD!
Hauppauge! WinTV-dualHD USB tuner – Dual Freeview HD/DVB-T2 tuner – Boxed – £35

This was bought from 365games in December 2016 so some warranty left, invoice will be included.

I already have one of these in my Windows 7 Media Center, but couldn’t get them both to work together for 4 simultaneous HD recordings so I bought a single HD tuner.
I have tested them individually and I can say with confidence this works for 2 HD streams in WMC or using WinTV v8.

I have used one of my WinTV v8 licences while trying to solve the problem with Hauppauge support so if for any reason this licence number doesn’t work then I’ll happily PM the other number.

Hauppague! WinTV Nova HD S2 – Satellite HD Tuner PCi – unboxed – £10 SOLD

Removed working some time ago when I stopped running Freesat and Freeview simultaneously on WMC.
I can’t find the CD with WinTV it’s available from Hauppague’s website for a fee. I used it for free with MCE and I expect it works with other free PVR software too.

Peak dual Freeview tuner – dual DVB-T – boxed £10

Ran rock solid in my system for years. Low profile plate, mini aerial, remote and IR eye included.

ATi HD44550 512 DDR3 PCI-E HDMI/DVI/VGA passive graphics card – unboxed – £10
This was used for several years without problems. When my motherboard died I replaced it with an all in one system on a board so this is surplus to requirements.
I tested it in my desktop system and it works fine.

If you’ve got any questions, let me know .

Please feel free to make me an offer, these are just sitting here :)

For Sale – Passive HTPC, mCubed HFX Case, SSD – Price reduced

For sale here is my old media PC/HTPC. This was purchased from new and all components are fully working. It is fully passive, so completely silent other than when you play a DVD/Blu-ray (though this is very quiet). It’s pretty efficient too (it idles at around 40W).

The case is pretty big (430 (W) x 145 (H) x 450 (D) mm) and heavy (11kg without any components) so I’d prefer this to be collected from Stoke Newington, London N16 if possible. Postage may be possible (at cost) though it likely to be quite pricey, and I don’t currently have a suitable box.

Case: mCubed HFX Classic Case in black/silver mCubed HFX Classic Heatsink Case
Motherboard: Intel DH55TC microATX Intel® Desktop Board DH55TC Product Specifications
CPU: Intel Core i5 661 Intel® Core™ i5-661 Processor (4M Cache, 3.33 GHz) Product Specifications
Memory: 16GB (4 x 4GB) Crucial
Storage: 80GB Intel SSD Intel® SSD X25-M Series (80GB, 2.5in SATA 3Gb/s, 34nm, MLC) Product Specifications
Blu-ray drive: Lite-On iHOS104 Internal Blu-ray Drive
Power Supply: ManoPSU with 150W supply
OS: Windows 10 is installed without a licence to show that it is fully working

The case is in excellent condition. There are some small marks on the top at the rear from a house move, otherwise it’s excellent.

Price and currency: £200
Delivery: Goods must be exchanged in person
Payment method: Cash
Location: London N16
Advertised elsewhere?: Not advertised elsewhere
Prefer goods collected?: I prefer the goods to be collected

For Sale – MacBook Pro 13″ Early 2011 i5 / 250GB SSD / 2.3GHz / 8GB RAM – Very Very Low Cycle Count

Here I have for sale my MacBook Pro, Early 2011 model, i5, 2.3Ghz with Upgraded Samsung 850 Evo 250Gb and 2x4GB (total 8Gb) Ram and comes with latest OS Sierra installed.

Full spec can be found here:

MacBook Pro “Core i5″ 2.3 13″ Early 2011 Specs (Early 2011 13”, MC700LL/A, MacBookPro8,1, A1278, 2419*) @ EveryMac.com

This is the model that the memory, hard drive and battery can be changed quite easily and you can also remove the DVD drive to fit another SSD/HDD in its place, even use RAID0 too! – Technically if you take care of this MacBook it should last for ever …replacing the parts as and when you need too.

The MacBook screen is untouched, the keyboard is like new and the trackpad and palm rest area is untouched.

The top case and bottom case have some micro scratches which the camera can’t capture but are also not very noticeable, there are no dents or any physical damage at all, it has never been dropped, grazed against anything.

For its age the MacBook is in great condition and still passes my OCD test :), the new owner will not be disappointed.

Battery Cycle count is just 16!, I have included some screenshots of the condition of the battery and it lasts ages. (count may go up one digit when I reformat the drive and reinstall Sierra)

all ports, DVD drive, camera, backlit keyboard and Apple Logo Light work fine (the Retro Logo sticker can be taken off if you wish), Charger also included

With the upgraded 250Gb SSD, it flies!

Only selling as I fancy buying a MacBook Air as I’m no power user by any means.

For Sale – 2011 MacBook Air 11″

Hi,

I bought at a Macbook Air of here in February 2013, link to that thread.

For Sale – Late 2011 MacBook Air 11 inch with extras and AppleCare | AVForums

Its performed great for me since then, however I now require something a bit more powerful, so its up for sale.

I’m pricing it at £275, there is a very small mark on the side where I caught it against something, other than that I can’t find any marks.

Battery cycle count is 264, however the battery is only showing as 34.9% in Coconut. It lasts about a 1:10 without power.

Thanks for looking!
