For Sale – 1.5TB Ext HDD/Sandisk 64GB Extreme USB stick

Having a bit of a clearout so getting rid of a few surplus bits:
Core by CNM 1.5TB external HDD USB2
I believe the HDD inside is actually a Seagate Barracuda Green drive which is a reliable drive. Had this HDD for a few years now and its just sat, hasnt been used for the past year or so. In perfect working condition, no errors or faults.
The gloss black casing has got few light scratches with age, nothing major. Included is power adapter and USB cable (dont have original box but will find suitable box)
£35 delivered

Also up for sale is one of the fastest USB sticks on the market – Sandisk Extreme 64GB USB3 CZ80
Transfer speeds are reallly quick on this but for me its the consistency, the speed just doesnt fluctuate like most other drives.
Again perfect working order.
£20 delivered

Price and currency: See details
Delivery: Delivery cost is included within my country
Payment method: BT/PPG
Location: Batley

IBM DS8882F converges array and mainframe in one rack

Talk about converged infrastructure — IBM just embedded an all-flash array inside mainframe server racks.

IBM today launched a rack-mounted IBM DS8882F array for IBM Z ZR1 and LinuxOne Rockhopper II “skinny” mainframes that rolled out earlier in 2018. The 16U DS8882F is the smallest of IBM’s high-end DS8880 enterprise storage family designed for mainframes. The new mainframes install in a standard 19-inch rack. The IBM DS8882F array inserts into the same rack and scales from 6.4 TB to 368.64 TB of raw capacity.

The IBM DS8882F is part of a large IBM storage rollout that features mostly software and cloud storage updates, including the following:

  • IBM Spectrum Protect1.6 data protection software now supports automatic tiering to object storage and ransomware protection for hypervisor workloads. The software generates email warnings pointing to where an infection may have occurred. Spectrum Protect supports Amazon Web Services, IBM Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
  • IBM Spectrum Protect Plus1.2 virtual backup now supports on-premises IBM Cloud Object Storage, IBM Cloud and AWS S3. It also supports VMware vSphere 6.7, encryption of vSnap repositories, and IBM Db2 databases.
  • IBM Spectrum Scale0.2 added file audit logging, a watch folder and other security enhancements, along with a GUI and automated recovery features. Spectrum Scale on AWS now enables customers to use their own AWS license and supports a single file system across AWS images.
  • The IBM DS8880 platform supports IBM Cloud Object Storage and automatically encrypts data before sending it to the cloud.

The products are part of IBM’s third large storage rollout this year. It added an NVMe FlashSystem 9100 and Spectrum software in July, and cloud-based analytics and block-based deduplication in May.

Steve McDowell, senior technology analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, said IBM has become the most aggressive of the large storage vendors when it comes to product delivery.

“IBM storage is marching to a cadence and putting out more new products faster than its competitors,” McDowell said. “We’re seeing announcements every quarter, and their products are extremely competitive.”

IBM ended a string of 22 straight quarters of declining storage revenue in early 2017 and put together four quarters of growth until declining again in the first quarter of 2018. IBM’s storage focus has been around its Spectrum software family and all-flash arrays.

IBM’s focus on footprint

McDowell called the IBM DS8882F “a nice piece of hardware.” “The zSeries is moving towards a more standard rack, and this fits right in there with almost 400 TB of raw capacity in a 19-inch rack,” he said. “It’s about capacity density and saving floor space. If I can put a zSeries and a rackmount of storage unit side by side, it makes a nice footprint in my data center.”

“The days of an EMC VMAX spanning across your data center are gone. With flash, it’s how many terabytes or petabytes I can put into half a rack and then co-locate all of that with my servers.”

Eric Herzog, chief marketing officer for IBM storage, said reducing the footprint was the main driver of the array-in-the-mainframe.

“We created a mini-array that literally screws into the same 19-inch mainframe rack,” Herzog said. “This frees up rack space and floor space, and gives you a smaller, lower-cost entry point.”

Competing in a crowded market

IBM’s DS8880 series competes with the Dell EMC PowerMax — the latest version of the VMAX — and the Hitachi Vantara Virtual Storage Platform as mainframe storage platforms.

IBM storage revenue rebounded to grow in the second quarter this year, but the market remains crowded.

IBM’s Herzog said the storage market “is fiercely competitive in all areas, including software. It’s a dog-eat-dog battle out there. Software is just as dog-eat-dog as the array business now, which is unusual.”

The new products are expected to ship by the end of September.

Inside Xbox Episode 5 News Recap – Xbox Wire

Earlier today Inside Xbox Episode 5 aired, continuing to pull back the curtain on Team Xbox to celebrate our games, features, and fans. This episode was full of closer looks at some big upcoming games, including No Man’s Sky, We Happy Few, and Earthfall, as well as the announcement of a huge addition to Xbox Game Pass. So, without further ado, let’s take a closer look at some of the biggest news coming out of this month’s episode of Inside Xbox.

Rocket League and Warhammer: Vermintide 2 are Coming to Xbox Game Pass

The Xbox Game Pass catalog continues to grow this week, thanks to the addition of a couple of awesome titles. First up, the much-loved Rocket League, which blends elements of soccer, racing, and demolition derbies together to create a wonderful whole, hits Xbox Game Pass today. Then, tomorrow, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 brings its mix of over-the-top gore and first-person hacking and slashing to the service.

The Sport White Special Edition Xbox One Controller

Featuring beautiful, clean lines and a snazzy design, the latest addition to the Xbox One controller family is a looker. Inspired by sports and sneakers, the Sport White’s got mint green accents and grey and silver patterns to go along with its fresh white design. If you’re a sneaker head, you’ll definitely want one of these. You can snag this sporty beauty at the Microsoft Store and other retailers beginning July 31st in the U.S. and Canada, and then worldwide on August 7th.

A Closer Look at No Man’s Sky

The highly-anticipated space exploration game No Man’s Sky is hitting Xbox One on July 24, so we had Hello Games founder Sean Murray on to share a bit about how excited the team is to be bringing the game to our consoles. He also showed a new video created by the team that breaks down 11 new features, from freighters to alien sidekicks, added to the game since its initial launch, all of which will be available when the game launches on Xbox One.

We Happy Few Adds a Story Mode

The Inside Xbox team was joined by Guillaume Provost from Compulsion Games, the latest studio to join the Microsoft Studios family. Guillaume showed off We Happy Few’s new story mode for the first time, sharing that you’ll be able to see events in the game from multiple perspectives as you play. This is going to be one wild ride, and we can’t wait to see more when the game releases in August.

Surviving an Alien Invasion in Earthfall

Coming to join us from their studio just up the road in Bellevue, the team from developer Holospark gave us a closer look at the upcoming game Earthfall, which releases this coming Friday, July 13. Earthfall is a four-player co-op shooter that tasks players with surviving an alien invasion, and it looks like a blast. Even better, the guys announced that all maps and additions to the game will be absolutely free to anyone who purchases it. There will also be Mixer integration, so save up that Spark to help your friends!

Seasons Change in Forza Horizon 4

To close out the show, the team was joined by some familiar faces from Playground Games, who came on to give fans a closer at this highly-anticipated (and absolutely gorgeous) Xbox One racing game. This segment lead into a special live-stream on mixer.com/forzamotorsport , where the team at Playground Games highlighted the summer season, including interviews with the team and community Q&A.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in! We hope you enjoyed the show and we can’t wait to tell you all about next month’s episode in a few weeks.

Inside Xbox Returns July 10 – Xbox Wire

Inside Xbox returns to the spotlight live on Tuesday, July 10 at 3 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT on Mixer, Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter with interviews for Forza Horizon 4, We Happy Few, Earthfall, the latest news on Xbox Game Pass and a special story born from the Xbox Live Creators Program you won’t want to miss. Of course, we’ll also have a couple of secrets under wraps, and ready to reveal during the show as well.

Forza Horizon 4: Ralph Fulton from Playground Games will be on-hand to reveal more about Seasons in Forza Horizon 4, but better yet, Inside Xbox will transition to a special hour-plus long broadcast from Playground Games in the UK, where the team will reveal never-before-seen gameplay for the Summer Season in FH4.

We Happy Few: Our friends from Compulsion Games will also drop by with a fresh, in-depth look at the new Story mode they’ve brought to life in the tense, disturbing, and enthralling world of We Happy Few, including a first look at gameplay from a brand-new character’s perspective. Have you had your Joy today?

Earthfall: We’ll also be joined for by the team behind Earthfall, releasing July 13 in the Microsoft Store. We’ll have an exclusive, in-depth look at the action and strategy at the heart of this frantic four-player co-op FPS.

Xbox Live Creators Program: “How do I get into the games industry?” is a universal question always in need of a fresh answer. Inside Xbox traveled to Vancouver Canada to tell the story of one inspiring developer who combined their own hard work and ingenuity, with the access provided by the Xbox Live Creators Program to answer that question on their own terms.

Don’t forget to tune in for these stories and more on July 10 at 3 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT on Mixer, Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. We’ll see you online!
